Guide to protecting your account Empty Guide to protecting your account

Post by boyrdy 13th December 2011, 6:00 am

I have noticed that many people have been having their accounts hacked lately, so I decided to make this guide.

There are many things you can do to prevent your account from being hacked.
    1. Make a password that is somewhat complicated, but one that you can remember
also, you may want to change it every few months
    2. Set recovery questions
    3. Register your email (Thanks to Jackdekilla for adding this)
    4. Arrow Arrow Make a pin* (super important)
Put all valuable items in the bank before logging out (Thanks to Jagex for adding this)
    5. Don't log onto fake sites
    6. You may want to run frequent virus checks
    7. Never use your exact username and password combination on any other site

I may have missed several thing, but feel free to add on.
    Happy Runescape playing Exclamation Exclamation

"4. Don't log onto fake sites"

These sites can be any kind of site, so i suggest never use the same password for rs as anything else. Also Watch for emails that "runescape" sends to you. We should all know that runescape will never send you a mail that requires you to log in, unless you have requested a password renewal and you have to renew your password. This means that if you get a email that says, please log into your account for further information it is a fake. People will copy the script of the runescape backgrounds and everything with it. The mails are suspected to be sent out by bots to all emails occasionally ending up in someone who plays runescape's email. Also sometimes you get a warning from your email that it is a fishing email, in this case report it to runescape or at least delete it and block the sender!!

Yes, I must say that this is a good basis. Remember to always put your items of value into your bank before logging out

NO need to constantly bank items because money in the money pouch also requires a pin. Also set your email up with jagex this way you get 78 bank slots and a way of recovering your password. Secondly never give any other player your password no matter what the consequences for not doing so (I was kicked from a clan for not giving credentials because the person wanted to make me a member apparently Razz). If you are a person that sells accounts make sure that the sold account does not have the same password as yours (Jagex does not like the buying and selling of accounts, thought i should mention this Razz)
    Have fun@!@!

Speaking about hacking I just logged on and found out that I have been hacked Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad . I can no longer access my account and everything has been changed! Sad If anyone could help me get on my feet again it would be greatly appreciated My new account is called: Griffinsclaw, it is a really shit account and I am really upset. Any donations would be greatly appreciated! Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad

I'm sorry to hear this, but it's a little ironic how you got hacked after writing this. I will also add the email part, I think that email registration is important

Haha, that is quite funny, each time i have been hacked it was funny cause my account was never stolen or changed password, it was just cleaned...
It was hard but it is better than restarting!

Yeah it was really ironic. However I did not do some of the hack prevention things because I was lazy and thus I lost my account Sad. I think Jagex makes it too easy for people to recover someone elses account

Yeah making new accounts is one of the most fun things because you can level so fast and everything can be started again. Gratz on the 100m thing, the most I have ever had was 11m Razz

Honestly, making new accounts and training them are fun at first, then when it gets to higher levels it gets boring to train

If I'am online with another lure account i will make sure everyone knows that it is me, I will be in the fc and I will prove that is it mine through my lurre321. If the lure account cannot do this it is an importer. But I don't think I'll get one in a while so I'am not worried.
